Earthing systems in AC substations are designed to provide safety under normal operating and fault conditions. In this diploma thesis we first present the design procedure of an earthing system, according to the ΙΕΕΕ Std 80 - 2000 guide. Next, we examine the frequency response of the earthing system and some critical parameters (potential at the earth surface, touch voltage) for several earthing layouts. Finally, we design an earthing system and examine its safety.
